Chesapeake Midstream Partners' Commitment to Environmental Excellence

Our Core Values

Chesapeake Midstream Partners is committed to environmental excellence as we conduct activities throughout our operating areas. We will strive to integrate the following core values into all decisions affecting our operations and seek the same from our employees, contractors, suppliers and vendors.

  • Operational Excellence - We always strive for excellence and accept nothing less.
  • Business Philosophy - We are committed to protecting our country’s natural resources, caring for the environment and complying with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations as part of our daily operations.
  • Commitment of Resources - We will provide the resources needed to achieve our environmental protection objectives and expect our employees, contractors, suppliers and vendors to work together to create clean, safe and environmentally-friendly operations.
  • Continuous Improvement - We will continue to evaluate evolving environmental protection measures to improve our operating practices and minimize our environmental footprint.
  • Support of Industry Regulations - We support science-based regulations that ensure resources are produced and delivered safely and responsibly.
  • Community Focus - We will be responsible members of, and partners to, the communities where we live and work.

Focus Programs

To enhance and highlight the importance of these core values, Chesapeake Midstream has developed and is implementing or enhancing the following focus programs:

  • Disclosing Chemicals Used - We have and will disclose the chemicals used in our daily operations.
  • Water Sourcing and Use - We will effectively plan, manage and minimize the use of freshwater associated with our operations.
  • Managing Produced Water - We will recycle produced water as much as practical. We will not discharge produced water into surface waters or streams, but will store it in enclosed surface water tanks with secondary containment.
  • Preserving Air Quality - We will minimize air emissions associated with the transportation of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons. We will design, build and monitor the integrity of our facilities and pipelines to minimize environmental impact and avoid potential incidents.
  • Design and Construction - We will design and construct pipelines and facilities in a manner that protects the environment by meeting or exceeding applicable regulations.
  • Limiting Surface Impacts - We will minimize the impact to landowners, communities and the environment by limiting the size and number of new facilities, roads, pipelines and other surface disturbances. Existing infrastructure will be used when practical. Maintenance agreements will be developed and utilized to protect and maintain the roads we use.
  • Pre-construction Environmental Assessment - Prior to construction, we will conduct reviews to identify environmentally sensitive habitats, wetlands and other water resources, and culturally-significant locations. We will avoid sensitive resources when practicable.
  • Waste Management - We will handle, transport and dispose of waste generated from our operations according to applicable regulations. We will use the most relevant technology to minimize spills, reduce generated waste volumes and recycle where appropriate. We will create and maintain waste management plans that provide for disposal at a pre-approved site.
  • Best Management Practices (BMPs) - We will apply and continuously improve our BMPs to achieve and maintain an industry-leading position in safe, clean operations.
  • Public Outreach and Collaboration - We will continue to engage and educate committed stakeholders, and identify opportunities for further improvement. We will support and promote high-quality research and provide public education and timely communication.
